IPL or WT20 post Covid?
Everyone amongst us have been waiting dearly for cricket to restart. Covid-19 has put an indefinite halt on all cricketing action for almost 3 months now. Although we have some hope in the coming days, with the England vs West Indies test series scheduled, no one is really sure how things are going to pan out once the game does resume. It has been four years since the last T20 world cup was held in 2016 and by the looks of it, the wait might be more. Even when cricket does resume to a more normal level, it is unlikely that the scheduled T20 world cup will go as per plans, even though the first match is scheduled in October, which is still a long way from today, and also it is supposed to happen in Australia, a country which isn't severely hit from Covid and has almost fully recovered. Having said that, there will be some pressure on BCCI to host the IPL as well. This year's IPL was indefinitely postponed in April because of the Covid situation in India, one of the worst hit countries by the pandemic. So, there were rumours that if it does boil down to a situation where a choice has to be made between IPL and WT20, IPL might just get the nod, mostly because of financial reasons. Needless to mention, IPL can be held in some other country, given the current situation in India, and many countries have put their hand up as volunteers. It is no secret that IPL generates massive amount of revenue, and players all over the world earn much more through IPL than they earn while playing for their country. With that being said, my personal opinion, as a cricket fan from India, is that WT30 should be given more preference, as we fans don't care much about the financial factors and the wait for T20 world cup has been ridiculously long already ! What do you thing should happen this year? IPL or WT20? Have your say !
